The Wicked Day is the next book in the line of Mary Stewart's excellent literary contributions that create the arthurian saga. This 400 page book follows the Merlin Trilogy and contains the story of Mordred, the illlegitimate son of High King Arthur of Britain. Mary Stewart tells, from a third person perspective, how Mordred grew from a young boy into a man and how he came to know who and what he was. The book culminates with Mordred's rebellion against King Arthur, an act which brought both of their lives to a conclusion. However, while Mordred died permanently , King Arthur was borne away so that he might return when England needs him most. Mary Stewart brings Mordred to life as she exposes his thoughts, actions, feelings, and the rationale behind his decisions. As she tells the story of Mordred's life and rebellion, readers will be drawn in by her interesting and exciting narration. Her use of vivid adjectives and descriptions will make readers feel as if they are a part of the story and are hearing and feeling everything that is going on. The book is a perfect read for any good reader and contains a certain level of suspense and excitement, such that would make one unwilling to put it down. The book lacks boring parts as Mary Stewart fills every page with excitement and action rather than settling for filling pages with boring descriptions and worthless information. Mordred's treachery, Arthur's bravery, England's mythicality - all will come to life as one reads this book. In other words, Mary Stewart, in the Wicked Day, created a masterpiece of excellence.
